FUN FIND of the DAY: Province Stars By Shell Scapes

FUN FIND of the DAY: Province Stars By Shell Scapes
I just LOVE these starfish Hair Pins!
SOOOO PRETTY and water Princess like!
Provence Stars - Starfish Hairpins

How fabulous are these all glittered, drilled and attached to 2 inch hair pins with fine brass wire and Swarovski blue and yellow bicone beads??!!!
I love that these are REAL dried starfish and not the funky plastic ones I have seen around.

Totally random thought, I actually worked with a young woman YEARS ago that believed that if we put the starfish we had in our display case in water they would come back to life! I KID YOU NOT. The guys we worked with were TOTALLY having here going since she was dingy...had my other co-worker told her they were kidding I think we would have found them the next day in the employee bathroom sink! I believe she was over 21...you would think old enough to know better.
LOL!
Still, a funny happy story!
I LOVE the ocean and all the beauties found in it.
Definitely take a look in her shop because she has A LOT of beautiful and creative designs using various shells and delights!

SIGNS BY DIANE

I have ALWAYS had a little place in my heart for anything that looks a little weathered and vintage. When the "shabby chic" trend hit YEARS ago I was CRAZY with delight. The hot trend soon fell away but left the space for true believers and people that really appreciate times of the past. Nothing makes me more happy then to introduce you to Signs By Diane
A wonderful shop filled with various designs that evoke feelings of romantic notions.
Her handcrafted signs cover several styles from Shabby Cottage Chic, Paris apartment, beach cottage and Vintage.
Here is a little message from her shop announcement:

"I feature shabby custom personalized signs for weddings, businesses, or family homes! You can choose your colors, phrases and style of fonts!! I love working with brides and I am extremely flexible with your wants and needs to make your accent signs just perfect for your special day!"

Wedding Sign With Arrow

I really appreciate all the work that goes into each and every piece. It is a true process to make these signs.
As a former professional makeup artist I remember always saying, "...it takes a lot of makeup to look this natural on camera..." Surely my work was not a arduous most of the time but the genuine effort is the same. Meaning, you have no idea what kind of work really takes place to get the end result.
LOL!

It's not surprising that her work has been featured in a number blogs and will be in the August issue of Somerset Home magazine.

Seaside Cottage

I have seen other designs in the same vein and I must confess that often many of these look contrived to "look old and weathered" to me where as Diane's pieces actually look like something you cleaned up and found posted at the beach or in an over grown Victorian Garden. It's a truly skilled artisan that makes these pieces.

Garden Entrance
As if her entire shop wasn't already filled with so many wonderful choices...what is just delightful is you can have one of these beautiful signs customized exactly to your desire!

A whole new way to introduce something old that is really something New!!!

Miranda Wedding Necklace

So I have been getting an overwhelming amount of requests for jewelry again!
It goes in waves!
First it was all the women in my family inquiring over the last 6 months...and within the last 3-4 months it's been a bit overwhelming!
So, inspired by a fascinator I made almost 2 years ago finally made this piece for a client.
I wanted to make something totally luxurious and "wedding feeling" yet also a design you don't see duplicated over and over in other shops.

I used White Swarovski pearls, crystals and rhinestones. Some of the Golden Shadow crystals detail is lost in the photographs because of the transparency of them against the gold filigree. It's times like this I wish I was a professional photographer. I just can't get the fire when I photograph jewelry.
The piece just sparkles so brightly in person.
Well, after 5 hours working on this piece I have it ready.

I was up until 5 in the morning working on it...I'm tired!
I totally threw off my body time clock now!
I'm ready for bed...eventhough, I doubt I'll go to be for several more hours!

Picture Re Do Time!

Anyone that has followed my blog knows that I am crazy obsessive about retaking product pictures.
Lets say any item can easily have been photographed 5-8 times minimum multiplied 5 pics each!
Yeah, yeah...different lighting, backgrounds, camera...
It's all about the learning curve.
So, trying something new I think the Silk Dupioni makes for a gorgeous and delightful background color and I thought I would share the new photos.

OK.
A few new photos.
I thought this is such a nice alternative to the stark and clean BLACK that I normally use.
To me it's all about "texture" and visual interest. I wanted something to enhance the items aand still not distract from the photograph. I wanted something that makes the items "POP".

Yet not overwhelm the items being displayed.
...I just LOVE the COLOR!
LOL!!!!

Plus, I just LOVE the way the chocolate brown contrasts against the background color in this photo.
SO Rich and delicious! This is a new piece that isn't in my shop yet. Remember the over 100 items just sitting in my stock? Well, here comes a few! I actually made this over a year ago and never listed it. I just couldn't get it to photograph well. I think I finally realized how to represent the item in a way I think really compliments the piece.

I made this one around the same time as the previous piece and never listed it for the same reason. I was experimenting with fraying the fabric ends to create this very vintage like textural effect. The color is a beautiful silvery taupe brown that just didn't photograph well on a "white" or "black" background. Again, I really enjoy the rich contrast of the Dark chocolate brown tones of the feathers and stamen with this piece.

I realized that the black background with several of my white or ivory pieces seemed to flatten out the look of the flowers or simply wash the pictures out. I admit, I am not computer whiz so I think I do a pretty good self taught job on my photos but I know they could be better...so, I noticed with this background you see more detail and volume that gets washed out against the black.

All these pieces are or will be available in my shop for sale.
